چکیده

Aims To compare rates of serious adverse events in patients undergoing revision knee arthroplasty with consideration the indication for (urgent versus elective indications), and these primary re-revision arthroplasty. Methods Patients were identified national Hospital Episode Statistics (HES) between 1 April 1997 to 31 March 2017. Subsequent procedures same identified. The outcome was 90-day mortality a logistic regression model used investigate factors associated secondary outcomes, including infection (undergoing surgery), pulmonary embolism, myocardial infarction, stroke. Urgent indications defined as or fracture, all other (e.g. loosening, instability, wear) included cohort. Results A total 939,021 (939,021 patients), which 40,854 underwent subsequent arthroplasty, 9,100 Revision surgery rate 0.44% (135/30,826; 95% confidence interval (CI) 0.37 0.52) comparable (0.46%; 4,292/939,021; CI 0.44 0.47). much higher 2.04% (184/9037; 1.75 2.35; odds ratio (OR) 3.54; 2.81 4.46), periprosthetic fracture at 5.25% (52/991; 3.94 6.82; OR 6.23; 4.39 8.85). Higher stroke also observed Conclusion urgent (infection fracture) are risk comparison indications. These findings will be important patient consent shared decision-making should inform service design this Cite article: Bone Joint J 2021;103-B(10):1578–1585.
